Where am I? News Amansie West residents in bloody clash with Chinese illegal miners
Amansie West residents in bloody clash with Chinese illegal miners E-mail
Several people are reported injured after the youth of Amansie near Asante Bekwai in the Ashanti region clashed with some Chinese galamsey miners on Thursday morning.

It is reported that the Chinese miners fired gun shots to disperse the youth after they attempted to stop the Chinese miners from operating in the area.

Many residents fled the area for fear of being attacked by the Chinese.

The residents are angered that the Chinese are operating in the area even though they don't have the permission to do so.

Narrating the incident to XYZ News, Police Commander for Amansie West, Chief Superintendent S.K. Kwakye said the situation has brought under control.

He said “we have retrieved one pump action and two single barrels from the Chinese.â€

The residents have however vowed to fight for their lands until the Chinese are driven away from the area.

Chief Supt. Kwakye said they have agreed to ensure that the Chinese are removed from the area as soon as possible to maintain peace.**

It is not surprising that in 2012 we still find ourselves in the position where other nations who do not have an interest in us/our progress infringe on our lands and resources. The youth are very aware of this and I am glad that they have the presence of mind to fight for what is theirs. What a nerve these Chinese have-have No legal right to even be there!
I am glad that the people have the support of the police. Send them packing on the next slow boat to China! They are not our friends- simply the next phase in a long line of exploiters!
